GitHub’s July 30 daily Trending list, checked again on August 1, was full of projects that make agents useful outside a chat window. Hugging Face Speech-to-Speech connects voice activity detection, speech-to-text, a language model, and text-to-speech into a local pipeline, with an OpenAI Realtime-compatible WebSocket API. OpenWork is a desktop app and MCP service, a standard tool interface, for sharing agent tools across macOS, Windows, and Linux. Its search_capabilities and execute_capability tools let an agent find and run connected services. last30days-skill searches Reddit, Hacker News, GitHub, and Polymarket, with optional social and video sources, then produces a cited brief. ECC includes 67 agents, 281 skills, 94 commands, hooks, memory, and security scanning.
The four projects solve different jobs. A developer can keep speech recognition and speech output on their own machine, then point the language-model step at a compatible server. A team can share an OpenWork workflow instead of rebuilding the same connections in every desktop agent. A researcher can use last30days-skill’s existing connectors rather than write a separate one for each site. The same earlier Trending snapshot covered GUI control and persistent memory. The ownership details still need care: Speech-to-Speech uses Apache-2.0, last30days-skill and ECC use MIT, and OpenWork is MIT outside /ee but Fair Source inside it. OpenWork also sends users through a remote MCP endpoint and browser sign-in, so teams should review permissions and credential handling before sharing a workflow.
