Lock-Free Programming: Threads Share Data Without Waiting on a Lock

Lock-free programming lets threads coordinate with atomic operations instead of blocking on a mutex. LMAX’s Disruptor cut event latency by three orders of magnitude, at the cost of code that is hard to get right.
