John Jumper, who led the Nobel-winning AlphaFold protein-structure project, left Google DeepMind for Anthropic after nearly nine years, echoing Andrej Karpathy’s earlier move. OpenAI brought GPT-5.5 Instant to ChatGPT’s health answers for every free user: more than 230 million people ask ChatGPT health questions each week, answers flagged for possible factual errors fell 71% in two months, and doctors rated its answers higher than ones other doctors wrote by hand. OpenAI also gave its Codex coding agent Record & Replay, which turns a repetitive task you demonstrate once into a reusable skill, and Anthropic added live, shareable pages to Claude Code that update themselves as work moves. A White House order briefly switched off Anthropic’s Mythos and Fable 5 models in South Korea, and a Chinese firm showed a $4,300 self-driving toilet.

A free chatbot now answers questions about lab results or what to ask a doctor at a level physicians preferred to human-written replies. The agent features are about work instead: record one tedious task and replay it forever, or hand a teammate a live incident page rather than a stale screenshot. The toilet is the week’s clearest robotics story, driving itself across a room on robot-vacuum sensors to reach someone who cannot walk to the bathroom.

Talent keeps flowing toward Anthropic, making model builders a moving prize, while a single government order can switch a frontier model off overnight. Raw capability is no longer the edge. Who you can hire, and what you are allowed to run, increasingly is.
