Meta published the code to build your own hardware for Muse, its AI agent. The project, Muse Gadgets, releases an ESP32 firmware and an SDK for Linux, so you can program an off-the-shelf board or a spare Raspberry Pi and connect Muse to “displays, buttons, sensors, actuators, and whatever else you’ve got lying on your workbench.” Meta’s suggested projects include a color e-ink screen for reminders, an HDMI stick for your TV, and a small touchscreen that looks like a home-made Muse Charm. Each gadget needs a token to pair, and it appears in the Muse app on iOS or Android once you turn on Developer mode. Meta’s page adds that “side effects of tinkering may include bricked boards, voided warranties, brownouts, or bankruptcies.”
Meta built one too. Muse Home Link is a USB-C dongle that puts Muse on your home Wi-Fi, where it can switch on a light, control a TV, or send a document to a printer using community-made skills. Nat Friedman, who leads product for Meta Superintelligence Labs, said the company manufactured 5,000 and will ship them in a few weeks, free to U.S. Muse subscribers while supplies last.
An ESP32 board or an old Raspberry Pi costs far less than a finished device, so the barrier to trying a personal AI gadget drops to parts you may already own. Muse is only weeks old, and Meta is opening just enough of it to grow an accessory community while keeping the agent itself closed.
