Team Human: Creators With 300 Million Subscribers Ask Governments to Slow AI Down

A petition campaign led by YouTube creators with 300 million combined subscribers asks governments to agree an international slowdown of frontier AI. Signatures go to lawmakers in Washington and Brussels.

Team Human is a petition campaign asking the public to pressure governments to slow down frontier AI. Launched on 4 October, it is led by YouTube creators with more than 300 million combined subscribers, including Mark Rober, Kurzgesagt and Jenny Hoyos, and organized with the Center for AI Safety. Signatures go to lawmakers in Washington and Brussels this fall. The statement says AI “is moving faster than our ability to control it” and calls for a global slowdown through international agreements. It asks for two things: guard the specialized chips that frontier models need, and get the United States, China and other big economies to slow down together under a watchdog.

This is a pressure campaign, not a research paper. Its bet is that governments act only when they see how many voters care. It points to existing support: 77,417 signatures on the Superintelligence Statement, which calls for a ban on smarter-than-human AI until scientists and the public agree it is safe, and 1,386 employees of frontier AI companies who asked governments to build the tools needed to pace the technology.

OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Anthropic’s Dario Amodei and Elon Musk publicly backed pacing frontier development in September. Governments pushed back: President Trump said a slowdown would hand China the AI lead, and China’s foreign ministry called the warnings fearmongering. The same week, Axios reported that executives at Anthropic, OpenAI and other labs are privately gaming out the backlash after a catastrophic AI event. Team Human’s answer is that the rules should come from elected lawmakers, not the companies building the technology.
